I’m a neutral lip lover and in honor of National Lipstick Day I’ve narrowed down all my favorites to my top 5 neutrals. This includes lipstick only – I’m still a lip gloss and tinted balm lover at heart, but for lipsticks these are my favorites of the moment. I broke out my backups of these for today’s post. Each of these colors I’ve already gone through at least 1 full tube – this is how I narrowed down my picks for my top 5. If I have used them up and repurchased it must be good because it usually takes me forever to use anything up. On the nails in the top photo is OPI Samoan Sand (with three coats).
- Tom Ford Lips and Boys in Bradley is probably my most-worn nude since it launched, lip swatches here and compared to the Girls here
- Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution in Pillow Talk is the best my lips but better neutral pink, on the lips here
- Sisley Phyto-Lip Twist #11 Litchi is the prettiest soft peachy nude, it was such a splurge but 100% worth it (never swatched it on the blog, but will be swatching more of this formula soon)
- MAC Matte Lipstick in Yash is a great matte neutral nude, I can’t find lip swatches of this one on the blog but I do have it arm swatched here, also love Patisserie, Touch, Velvet Teddy and Mehr
- Pat McGrath LuxeTrance in Sextrology is an easy to wear baby pink that doesn’t wash out my tan complexion, lip swatches here
I’ve also included a few more runner ups and I’ve linked previous lip swatches for each color below. These are some neutrals I love for their texture, lasting power, creamy feel and color. There’s one matte which is the Laura Mercier color below – I add balm to it because the formula can pull a bit dry but the color is perfect.

I’m really wanting Pat McGrath Christy in my life. Part of the new mattes. I LOVE my Nars Anita and Pat Valetta and TF Pussycat are my nude staples for fair skin.
I have rather a pash for Lime Crime’s Matte Velvetine Liquid Lipstick in Cashmere.
KvD Lolita II is my #1, and PmG Omi is #2. Loving Bite Dirty Chai lipgloss lately too!

I really like using the CT Pillowtalk lip liner all over, so I should really buy the lipstick format at this point.
I know it isn’t a very expensive brand, but I love Revlon’s “Pink in the Afternoon”. It’s a neutral coral pink (a MLBB) and it was supposedly worn by Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. It’s very moisturizing and the color payoff is terrific for a drugstore brand.
oooh, thanks for the rec- what a fun bit of movie makeup trivia! I tend to favor fancy brands like Chanel but Revlon Super Lustrous and Loreal color Riche will always have a place in my stash. You are so right- Revlons do have a wonderful formula and color selection! Classic and beautiful.

I am surprised by how much I like Covergirl’s Demi-Matte in Streaker (435). It’s a pinky peach (versus a peachy pink). Goes on like a dream and lasts 4-5 hours.
thanks for this post- I love your beauty roundup/recommendations, particularly lipstick ones. What a lovely curated selection, I have not tried any but read great things about Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, Tom Ford Sable Smoke and want to try those. My go-to neutral is the classic Chanel Rouge Coco Mademoiselle, but lately I have been trying lots of nude lip crayons, like the Hourglass girl series, Chanel Le Rouge Jumbo crayons in Au Naturel and Nude, and Nudestix. So many fun options on the market lately, I am enjoying trying out new colors.
I just discovered Givenchy Rouge Interdit lipstick (I think from you Sabrina) … #5 Nude in the Dark. Great staying power with a bit of shine.
I don’t wear nudes. The swatches are lovely and shades beautiful, but I don’t feel that nudes suit me too much. I want more peach or pink from my lipstick. If I had to choose then Charlotte TIlbury’s Pillow Talk and Stoned Rose. x

I highly recommend this one. It’s one of the few lipsticks I’ve ever repurchased. She also has one in the same formula called English Beauty that’s slightly more peach/brown that is really flattering too.
I have Yash and sadly I think it’s just a little bit too light for my lips which is such a shame as it works so well on so many people, I think I need more of a pinkier base for a nude like Pillowtalk. Those Tom Ford lipstick swatches are totally gorgeous though! xx
