Fresh Tinted Sugar Shine Lip Treatments – Rosé, Honey and Cherry

Fresh has extended their Sugar Shine Lip Treatment line with three tinted shades in Rosé, Honey and Cherry ($18.50 each for 6 ml/0.2 fl oz). I’ve been a huge fan of the Clear Sugar Shine Lip Treatment for its high shine finish and sweet lemon-sugar scent. I like it more as a clear gloss rather than a lip treatment but like the way it feels on my sensitive lips. I ordered the tinted version from Sephora the week they launched online. They apply smoothly just like the clear version with a high shine finish. Rosé is a soft rosy pink with a transparent finish. Honey is a warm honey shimmer color. Cherry is a super sheer cherry red gloss. My favorite of the three is Rosé because it gives the lips a healthy soft tint of pink color. They have a slight plumping factor but without any tingly feeling (huge plus for me).

Rosé is my favorite of the three, it’s a soft classic rose pink with flawless coverage.

Honey has a bit of shimmer in the tube but it’s very subtle on the lips. It’s a full-coverage kind of gloss on me but you can sheer it out.

Cherry settles into my fine lip lines if it’s not blended well, I suspect it will be better over a lipliner or chubby stick to intensify the red color and make application smoother-looking. You can see my natural lip underneath in the swatch below.

I pulled out the corresponding Lip Treatments with the same names (the ones that come in a twist up stick/tube form) and swatched them side by side. The colors of the Lip Treatments vs. Sugar Shine Lip Treatments is very similar on the lips. I prefer the texture of the tube/sticks but mine always break easily. The gloss/sticks are much more convenient and easier to apply for me.

Huge thumbs up for Rosé and Honey Sugar Shine Lip Treatments. Cherry is a gorgeous sheer glossy red but it’s not super flattering when the color settles into lip lines. It need something underneath to work for me. I like the smooth texture and glossy finish. The scent is absolutely delicious – sweet but not overly sweet which is a huge plus for me since I tend to be picky with the way lip products smell. 

I was at my local Sephora over the weekend and didn’t see these in store yet but I suspect they will be arriving soon. I ordered my Tinted Sugar Shine Lip Treatments online from Sephora.com. Currently available at Fresh.com too.

Fresh Sugar Tulip Tinted Lip Treatment

The latest from Fresh is a new sheer hot pink lip tint called Sugar Tulip ($22.50 for 4.4g/0.15 oz). It’s currently a Sephora VIB Online Exclusive (one of the perks is early access). I just hit the VIB level a couple weeks ago so this was perfect timing for me. If you’re not a VIB, Sugar Tulip is also available in this new Flower Power Kit (on my wishlist even though I just bought the Tulip, I’ll pass along the extra one to my mom).
For those new to Fresh Lip Treatments, there are 9 tinted shades and one clear option. They all have a blend of oils, including meadow foam seed, black currant seed, avocado, and jojoba. They also have SPF 15 and have a sugary sweet lemon scent. These feel fresh and lush on my super sensitive lips and hydrate well.

Sugar Tulip is a gorgeous cool pink. I’ve had several Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments in the mini sizes over the years. I also adore the Fresh Sugar Honey shade although I don’t use these as frequently as I’d like to because of the super soft texture. I’m one of those women who is extra gentle with her makeup products and I take care of my items, but these are still on the soft side. Sometimes I stick them in the fridge for a couple minutes before applying on my lips. Color and pigment varies per shade, some I’ve found to be sheer and glossy while others have full coverage. Sugar Tulip falls somewhere in between. It’s not as rich in coverage as Sugar Honey but not as sheer as Sugar Rose. You can layer it for more coverage but I find it to be semi-sheer. The color adheres better to the lips versus a hand or arm swatch.

Compared to the Sugar Petal and Sugar Rose, Sugar Tulip has a lot more blue and fuchsia in the color. I’ve swatched them side by side and also added lip swatches for reference on how they look on the lips. (Minis shown below from holiday sets that I stocked up on.)

Overall love. It is on the soft side but mine hasn’t broken at the base yet (keeping fingers crossed). If you’re looking for a sheer hot pink that is super moisturizing, Sugar Tulip is a good option.

Tatcha Gold Camellia Moisturizing Lip Balm

Tatcha’s Gold Camellia Moisturizing Lip Balm ($36 for 8g / 0.28 oz.) is a luxurious lip treatment. Everything about this is phenomenal from the packaging (pot and box packaging), scent, texture and design. The Camellia Lip Balm is a semi-transparent jelly-like balm covered with a thin layer of crushed 24-karat gold leaf. It has a soft spa-like scent, like a mix of Botan Rice Candy and flowers, but softer. As others have noted this is a very smooth lip balm that gives hydration to the lips instantly. It covers the lips entirely but doesn’t feel too sticky. When you touch the surface the gold leaf breaks into small pieces. It’s designed to give a subtle hint of gold shimmer to the lips when applied. For me the shimmer barely showed up which I was ok with given the formula felt so amazing.
In terms of how it compares to my other favorites such as By Terry Baume de Rose, Jo Malone and Hourglass, Tatcha’s Gold Camellia Lip Balm has made the cut to join my group of favorites. If you have dryer lips that are prone to cracking or peeling with certain lipsticks, By Terry or Hourglass’s Lip treatments offer a deeper and more intense treatment which I need after using MAC Lipsticks or Lipglasses (my lips usually peel a day after using MAC Lipsticks or Lipglasses but it still doesn’t stop me from using them). These however are more heavy on the scent so if you’re one who prefers something more light the Tatcha is light enough for even the most sensitive noses.

I like to apply this mid-day at work or at night before bed. The scent is soothing and refreshing. It’s like a mini spa treatment for the lips.

Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil and Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner

My two favorite lip treatments right now are Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($42 for 0.25 oz) and Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner ($25 for 0.52 oz.). When it comes to trying new lip balms I tend to get a little nervous. I have sensitive lips and some lip treatments cause either numbing or allergic reactions (such as Kiehls and many of the drugstore brands). The ones with a plumping factor are usually a no-go for me. Some make my lips feel more dried out than moisturized (like La Mer) I also prefer lip treatments that are in squeeze tubes rather than pots or twist up sticks.  

Hourglass N° 28 Lip Treatment Oil was sent as a press sample. I was actually able to try it in store before I received my sample. The finish and texture is smooth and shiny. The lip treatment is infused with 14 different oils: Bois De Rose,
Lavender, Geranium, Petitgrain, Lemon, Rosemary, Vanilla, Clove, Amyris,
Orange, Ylang Ylang, Eucalyptus, Cedar, and Rose Geranium. It also contains
lipid-rich plant oils that include Hazelnut, Kukui Nut, Rose Hip,
Borage, Olive, Green Tea, Cherry Pit, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, and Evening
Primrose, and is fortified with vitamins A, B5, C, and E.
The product is designed to provide deep hydration while reducing the appearance of depth in wrinkles. I did notice it smoothed out the lips but the look result was like most other clear lip glosses and lip balms. The shine and moisture smoothed out the wrinkles. There is a soft soothing herbal scent to the Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil. It’s a like a spa for the lips. My favorite part is the texture. It’s a medium-thick texture which adheres well to the lips. There’s not too much slip that it feels greasy like some lip balms do, but it’s not too thick. I’ve been using this one to two times per week, usually in the evenings to help hydrate the lips. The packaging is quite unique. There is a beveled gold-plated tip that dispenses the product easily without any mess. The tube is compact enough to store in your makeup bag and easy to travel with. Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Conditioner is a tried and true staple. This has a smooth texture that makes the lips feel well moisturized and soft. There is a soft scent to it which is hard to describe but it’s very gentle and soft, almost honey-like but not quite. It has a calming quality and a very luxurious feel. The black sleek tube has a cap that twists on well so it doesn’t leak. I can’t rave enough about this one. I’ve gone through many tubes. (Full ingredient list below.)

If you have sensitive lips and are looking for something luxurious and soothing for normal to dry lips, I’d recommend both of these. I personally prefer the Jo Malone for the scent and price, but the Hourglass is nice as a weekly treatment.
